I’m a fan of Susan Spicer’s approach to food and when a friend came into town for a conference, I jumped at the chance to go to Bayona for lunch.

The place is charming and the weather was perfect for us to sit outside in their courtyard and chat. The waitstaff doesn’t rush diners at all and we were able to really catch up on each other lives while they refilled drinks and brought dishes with minimal disruption.

bayonaI’ve always been impressed with what she does with sandwiches – she combines unexpected ingredients and turns them into something new and amazing. I ordered the “PB&J” and am even now having a hard time describing the way the complex flavors came together. It was made with cashew butter and pepper jelly but then she added smoked duck with some caramelized onions to kick it up several more notches. It was sweet and savory and pretty darn tasty.

Molly had the beer and cheese soup and it went down very smoothly after a late night with her fellow conference goers and a little Irish whiskey.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
